Baseball Town Reborn

Visit Hot Springs

Hot Springs is known as the birthplace of Major League Baseball spring training. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, many Major League teams trained in the Spa City, including the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Nationals, Chicago White Stockings and Boston Red Sox. Part of the appeal of Hot Springs was the health benefits of the bathhouses. Today, the city commemorates this rich history with the Historic Baseball Trail and the annual Hot Springs Baseball Weekend.

Majestic Park’s history

In 1909, owner of the Boston Red Sox, John Taylor, built the team a practice field in Hot Springs and named it after the Majestic Hotel, their spring training headquarters. From Babe Ruth to Jackie Robinson, some of the biggest names in baseball history have played at this very location.

Most recently, the park was operated by the Boys and Girls Club until it was forced to close due to a lack of funding. The community passed a tax to bring back the park to build a local league. Now open, the new Majestic Park has five fields, artificial turf, LED field lights, Wi-Fi, heated and cooled restrooms, and a new playground. These exciting developments provide a place for local children to play baseball, increase local tourism and open the door for big-league tournaments to take place in Hot Springs.
